Heather Rekken, BA, BASI Certified Pilates Instructor PDF Print E-mail

Growing up, Heather was active in dance (ballet, modern and jazz), gymnastics, tennis and figure skating until an accident on the vault forced her to quit her favorite pastimes and spend years in physical therapy.  Eventually, she returned to play tennis in high school and rowed on the women's crew team at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA.

Heather remained physically active after graduating with her BA, but she found it challenging to build lean, long muscles, break training plateaus and stay motivated with traditional gym exercises and cardio machines.  In 2008 she came to Balance Point and discovered the solution to her workout dilemma in Pilates.  Moreover, Heather appreciated the mind/body aspect of the practice.  She particularly liked the emphasis that Body Arts and Science International (BASI)  training places on the tenets of Pilates- awareness, breath, balance, control, flow, and precision of movement.

Intrigued and inspired by the BASI method, Heather enrolled in their rigorous Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training in 2010.  Upon certification, Heather began teaching at Balance Point part time in the evenings and on weekends.  During the day Heather works full time at the Center for Human Services, UC Davis Extension as the Program Representative for the Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Professional Development Program.
